Personalized Pillow

The other day, I had Mikayla draw a picture of herself with markers.
I then cut out a square of white fabric and laid it on top of the paper. I used paint pens and fabric markers to trace the picture she drew on the fabric. Then I heat set the fabric with a hot iron. (Colors are slightly different as my paint pens vary in color from her Crayola markers!)
Then I simply added a border and a back and stuffed the pillow. Such a cute, easy project and
it probably took me about an hour total.
Mikayla loves the new addition to her bed too.

Cute Thank Yous

I saw this idea on the new blog eighteen25 and put my own little spin on it. I made giant peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, stamped a label, adhered it to the front of a cd envelope and slipped the cookie inside.
We gave these out to our primary workers at an appreciation bbq/swim party and they were just a cute, simple, easy little thank you. I'm sure I'll use the idea again soon! There are lots of options of things to fill them with too: candy, bracelet, dvd, anything!

Got my mojo back!

I was in a bit of a crafting funk, but I got it back!

Made this skirt for Mikayla. I took her to the fabric store and let her pick 2 different materials. I made the skirt and the matching pin and hair pretty. She really wanted an orange skirt and I was apprehensive of the color at first, but I LOVE it now!
I love that she wants to rock a side ponytail whenever she can! I've also been making more flower hair clippies recently to match whatever it is she wants to wear. We love big flowers!

28 is Great

My mom was able to come down for my birthday and we had a fun day together. We all went to Mikayla's kindergarten graduation. Then my mom and I went for pedicures and out to lunch together sans kids. A rare treat! We brought home Panda for dinner and then the girls made me a birthday cake.
Sharing and working together--happily. A great birthday gift!
Blowin' out my 28 candles, or 5.
On to my 29th year of life, lots of fun things planned for this year: Trent graduating, family trip to Canada, more crafting and entering a craft fair, okay, maybe not too many things....yep, that's about all....hmmm....okay....well... Happy Birthday to me anyway! :)

And It's Summer Time Again!

Mikayla graduated from Kindergarten which meant it was the start of summer vacation for us!
Here they are at the graduation ceremony as we listened to all the awards being given.
Mikayla with her teacher, Mrs. Cancel.
Grandma Carr was able to join us for graduation and for the weekend and we really enjoyed having her visit us!
The kids wore white and black for the talent show and her class sang a song in Japanese--very cute!
Of course, the night before the talent show, we realized we didn't have a black and white hair pretty to match her outfit, so naturally...I made one. Mikayla is all about the hair accessories this year!
Here she is waiting with her class to go on stage.
Hula hooping at field day, what a fun-filled last week of school!
Megan and Brock had fun playing during field day too.
We had a great year of Kindergarten. Mikayla learned a ton, is reading like a rock star and is ready for first grade! I'm not sure how full days of school will go, but she'll be in full day school and Megan will be in half day preschool and I'll be running around back and forth to both--should be interesting!

Thank You Megan

For your fabulous rendition of Beyonce's "Single Ladies" and Train's "Soul Sister" during sacramento meeting at church. You make me laugh. Everyone behind us enjoyed it too. Keep on singing soul sistah!

Summer Spinach Strawberry Salad!

This has become our new favorite summer salad! Such a good recipe. Seriously. Try it.

Dressing:
1/2 C. sugar
1/4 C. apple cider vinegar(mix both till combined, then add)
1 1/2 tsp. minced onion
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp. paprika
1/3 cup oil

Mix all and pour desired amount over salad. I put mixed greens and baby spinach in the salad with sliced strawberries and avocados. Then I toss some candied almonds on top and it is seriously delish! For dinner, we throw some grilled chicken with it and it's a fabulous meal!

Candied almonds: 1/4 Cup sugar and 1/2 Cup slivered almonds

Stir both in pan till sugar is dissolved. Spread out on pan to dry and cool. Couldn't be simpler! I use some in the salad and save the rest for future nights. It's a great salad to take to bbq's, luncheons, etc. too.

Oh yeah, nothing like a nice strawberry virgin margarita to go along with it! Don't judge me. :)

I Can't Take It Anymore.

Okay Kendra. Enough with the big blue eyes. The irresistable cheeks that need kissing. The soft hair wisping to one side. The beautiful lips that give perfect open-mouthed kisses. I can't take it anymore. You are too stinkin' cute and it's killing me. I just want to hold you and cuddle you and kiss you all day long. I. Am. In. Love. With. You.
I tried to get some pics of Kendra on a log while camping and the munchy monster couldn't keep her paws or mouth off the weeds and grass!
It really was cracking me up!
She was gnawing away at it!
Kendra turned 7 months old. I took her in yesterday for her appt. and she is 15 lbs. 1oz. and 27 inches. Long and lean like Megan. She is crawling, like real crawling have to pick up plastic pieces off the floor and dirty socks and sweep and mop more kind of crawling. She's still solely breastfed, but loves her fruits and veggies and all kinds of small dissolvable foods. She loves laughing at her sister's silly antics and immediately flips over on her tummy to fall asleep in her crib when I lay her down on her back.

And You Thought It Couldn't Be Done...

Well, okay, maybe you didn't even know it was going to happen. But, I did it nonetheless. Yes, I took the 3 girls camping without Trent for 4 days to Santa Cruz. Some say I'm brave. I say there is a fine line between bravery and stupidity.

Honestly, I was nervous. Really nervous. Like had to take a few big breaths on the drive there and have serious talks with the girls about behavior I expect from them and camping rules and the importance of obedience and that if they obey they can have all the marshmallows they want kind of a talk. Well, they listened (shocker I know). They were wonderful. I not once lost my cool, or had a tantrum(me or the girls), and we enjoyed our time on the beach and at the campsite immensely. The only sad moment we had was with Mikayla because I apparently didn't pack a pretty enough dress for church on Sunday. Sorry child, mom does laundry, mom decides what gets worn around a dirty campground before church. But honestly, if that's the worst disagreement or problem we're going to have while on our trip, I'll count my blessings.

Every year for Memorial Day weekend, almost 50 families from our stake head down to Santa Cruz. It's nice to let the kids have a little freedom to roam from campsite to campsite visiting friends and to see so many friends on the beach too. We all head down for some camping, some beach play, and s'mores. Okay, well, that's why I go anyway.
And to take a ridiculous amount of pictures of kids doing ridiculously cute things like this.
Mikayla and Erik chased the waves for hours.
Here's the kids digging for treasure buried by *ahem* pirates. Pirates that buried ring pops, bubbles, necklaces, and candy! Later on, Megan saw a sailboat on the ocean and said, "Look, it's the pirate ship! The pirates are leaving now!"
My little mermaid.
It's no wonder I'm still cleaning sand out of every nook and cranny of these children.
The girls loved everything about the sand.
I love this picture!
Kendra kept dive-bombing my face and sucking on my chin or lips or nose. It was quite hilarious!
Beach babe chasing waves.
And another one eating the waves. lol
How do you resist a cute bum shot?!
Yes, yes Kendra and I went to the beach too.
Kendra loved the feel of the sand.
So much so, that she had to taste it.
And hated it.
But for some reason, just couldn't stop herself! haha
I strapped Kendra on my back and carried Megan down to the beach and back up again, up that nice little not-so-steep hill behind me(cough, cough). Blech. I won't camp by myself again for the sheer logistics of getting 3 kids from one place to another!
We did a little tree-walking.
Kendra and Brock got their breathing treatments.

Ahhh, I made it.

Trent was originally coming with us, but 2 days before our trip, his professor scheduled all-day Saturday school for i.v. training. Well, you can't be too mad at things that are out of your control, so I decided I'd just pack 'em up and go myself. We had a blast! We had fun camping with our really good friends, the Christensen's, and Mikayla loved riding her bike all over the campground with her friends.

Sure I was thoroughly exhausted, but it was worth it. Tucking Megan in at night in the tent she said, "Mom, you are the best mom ever! I love camping." And Kendra loved me so much she woke up every hour one night to sing er, scream, and see my face and get some kisses. Ahh, such sweet children.
